Market defied the expectation that there might be more upward rally this week as market came
down a bit today. The All-Share index came down by 0.825% against 0.742% gain of yesterday
and this resulted in the loss of N47.99 billion in Market Capitalisation as against Friday’s appreciation of N42.832 Billion. The banking sector contributed mostly to the drop in the market with only 3 stocks out of 21 traded in the sector today gained; 14 lost and 7 remained unchanged in the sector.
Drops in other sectors were evenly spread. The severed drop recorded in the banking sector might not be unconnected with refuted rumours in some dailies about the impending sack of management and board members of unnamed four banks by the Central Bank of Nigeria. This probably sent panic to investors holding banking stocks to play safe hence the massive sell of the banking stocks.
